Pre comp it was great to catch up with mate and energizer Queenstowns Chris Dore, expert guide and Manic Tackle Projects Promotions Ambassador. As we explored some fun lakes for a day in the Waikato Region pulling streamers. So much water to explore and not enough time!!
Session 2 of the SFFNZ Waikato Regional Champs. Sinking Lines:
After a few hours fishing the shallows during the competition, I knew I was not equipped for fishing all the margins of my local lake. I thought I could capitalise on what I had learned several weeks ago which was casting the slick Clear Camo intermediate fly line from Airflo for spooky browns. The truth was I do not think fish were following the fly and taking with a slow figure of eight in the shallows as per my previous experience. So, I pulled out the Streamer Max with an integrated head this allowed to shoot a cast into the wind and punch out a Boobie fly, Cruncher and beadhead woolly bugger combo. Fish had changed their behavior from lethargic to the chase! Oh that sinking feeling when your down on points and need one more fish!. With ΒΌ of an hour to go the wake of the boobie and the angle of the line in the deep managed to draw up a nice brown! Bang got em on the hang!! Stoked!!
