When damsels come out to play!
Lately some good fish have been seen coming out of our Central North Island fishing locations, and damsels pay a big part of this equation and trout eats. A few things to note when tying damsel patterns. Keeping your flies to a low profile, slim and dull little or no flash. I prefer to use barbless hooks as the hook-up rate is far better. Some of the barbless models come in black rather than the standard 'bling' silver. Browns in particular can be fussy to bling. Additi...

May 16, 2018Easter brings home the fun!
After a busy few weekends on the road, it was nice to get into a few fish for myself. The usual waterways have had a lot of pressure over summer, but persistence and using stealthy techniques paid off! a few shots of some very nice NZ fish in God's own Aotearoa....
April 8, 2018Change in weather, change in fly!
Noticed real changeable weather, and the nymphs just are not working!...well me too after using the go to methods last week, I decided to change it to fishing a midge tip Airflo line, concentrating on strip searching for fish. The result after pulling orange head streamers was instant! ...
March 20, 2018A Sinking line to finish em off!
Sometimes good casting mixed with location and listening to the guide come off! The call to switch to an Airflo clean camo sinking line proved deadly for Sydney, Australia's James Yerbury, picking off a mix of browns and bows for a 35-40 fish bag. Best flies Manic Skinny buggers in Olive and Black contrasting well against the weed beds. Great day see you back again James and Kimberly....

December 14, 2017Eliminating drag, good drift
A recent trip to the Tongiriro with my client proved to be both challenging and rewarding. Many fast cross rapid currents getting a good drift is key. Once a good drift is mastered the results are instant. I taught my client to manage drift, the importance of weight and fly selection and making life easy by using the river to best advantage with body positioning....

August 22, 2017Break from the winter blues
Nice day on the water with mate Cory Scott (Photo credit Cory Scott)A break in weather results in some fish moving up in the water column, Pulling streamers to big browns is always fun, keeping a tight line and good contact essential, strong tippet 8-12lb Airflo G3 Fluro carbon was used and the Scott S4 9'6 handled well!...
July 19, 2017Super spawning fish
It was great to get out on the last week before closing in Rotorua's premium trout stream. We waded through many rainbows with some exciting action, and finally a few browns were spotted in a slight pool, lots of cover, snags and shadow. Yet a carefully placed fly never goes astray! Well done Jeremy!...
July 4, 2017Winter bling
Stressed about glo bugs, loosing too many flies, these are super easy to tie and catch fish. A few turns of chenille and white marabou....Go Catch!!...
June 13, 2017Some spectacular trout in the river at the moment! with lots of energy!
Using light gear can be hard work...I suggest a large net and fish with a friend. I learnt the hard way with these fish running down stream and netting myself, there just has to be an easier way! ...
May 27, 2017Some recent action on my local streams
With the weather conditions dropping this brings about some great spawning runs into our local streams , solid fish are not shy in taking bright colored egg patterns early morning. Often paired fish can be seen turning over and making reds. With delicate presentation they may even take a fly. ...
